COVID-19 updates regarding Local, State, and National competitions in 2020

We will not be holding a program during the year of 2020 per the Miss America Board's recommendations.  Please see press release below for more details and information and check back at a later date for new dates of future events and programs.

NEW YORK, NY (May 8, 2020) –  The Miss America Organization announced Friday that the Miss America 2021 Competition, previously scheduled for December, is being delayed to next year due to the nation-wide impact of COVID-19.

For the safety, health and welfare of the enormous community necessary to make the Miss America competition possible, including participants, volunteers, organizers, and fans, the Miss America Board of Directors has unanimously voted in favor of postponing the Miss America 2021 Competition and has advised the 51 qualifying competitions across the country to do so as well.

“As we all know, this moment in our history is one that will change the course of many programs, businesses, and institutions, and the Miss America Organization is not alone in navigating these challenges,” said Shantel Krebs, Board Chair. ”At this time, as an organization, our greatest concern is to make sure the thousands of people who are involved in or volunteer for our program are safe. This coming year will be our 100th anniversary for this iconic American institution, and we want to make sure that we take the time to ensure our annual broadcast and the surrounding experiences reflect our time-honored tradition.”

Prepare great women for the World.

Prepare the World for great women.

How is the Miss America program different than Miss USA?
In 1952, Catalina Swimsuits founded the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants as product promotion tools because the Miss America that year refused to wear the swimsuit. Developed by the Miss America Organization, the Miss America program exists to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community. Almost all candidates have either received, or are in the process of earning college or postgraduate degrees and utilize Miss America scholarship grants to further their educations. The Miss America Organization is the leading provider of scholarships for young women in the world. Although some young women compete in both Miss America and Miss USA, the two systems are completely separate.

As a local committee, and strong believers in the MAO, we continue to stand strong with the organization. It has changed the lives of thousands of young women all over the United States of America and will continue to do so. We stand proud, promoting Style, Service, Scholarship, and Success.  The Miss America Board works hard to ensure the betterment of the program in its entirety.  While some may or may not agree with these changes; we believe it is an improvement of the program and will continue to support the program and platform it stands for!
